Unlike
his previous albums, Daddy Yankee describes his
latest album with a mixture of Reggaeton, Merengue,
Perico Ripiao, Bachata, Soca and Dance Hall. Some
recorded tracks with Don Omar, Luis Fonsi, Barrington
Levy and Jowell & Randy has been rejected
of recycles. Before the release, Daddy Yankee
confirmed that the album include 13 tracks plus
3 bonus tracks on the iTunes version. The album
doesn't include the tracks recorded with Luis
Fonsi and Don Omar since Yankee signed for the
album to be released under Sony Music and not
Universal Music Group. He had also recorded a
new song named "Intenso" which was released
on his birthday for his fans, but said that it
was not going to be on this material.
About
Daddy Yankee
Ramón
"Raymond" Luis Ayala Rodríguez
(born February 3, 1977), known artistically as
Daddy Yankee, is a Latin Grammy Award winning
Puerto Rican reggaeton recording artist. Ayala
was born in Río Piedras. In his youth he
was interested in music and baseball, in which
he aspired to become a Major League Baseball player.
He was unable to continue this sport when he received
an injury to one of his legs, leaving him unable
to walk correctly. He then became involved in
the underground rap movement that was in its early
stages in Puerto Rico, later to be called Reggaeton.
After receiving lessons from several artists within
the genre, he developed an independent career,
first recording in a production titled Playero
37. After this he began to produce independent
albums. His first solo album was No Mercy. He
subsequently formed a duo with Nicky Jam, and
then continued his solo career with the releases
of El Cartel and El Cartel II. This led him be
one of many pioneers of the reggaeton genre.
In 2002
El Cangri.com became Ayala's first album with
international success, receiving coverage in the
markets of New York and Miami. Barrio Fino was
released in 2004, and the album received numerous
awards, including a Premio Lo Nuestro and a Latin
Billboard, as well as receiving nominations for
the Latin Grammy and MTV Video Music Awards. Barrio
Fino performed well in the sales charts of the
United States, Latin America, Europe, and Japan.
On June 5, 2007, El Cartel Records released El
Cartel: The Big Boss, which was ranked as the
top-selling album in Latin music genres in 2005.
He promoted the album with an international tour
which began in the United States and continued
through Latin America, breaking attendance records
in Ecuador and Bolivia. His performances have
appeared on more than 70 albums, including compilations
such as Mas Flow 2 and Blin Blin Vol. 1. Outside
of his work as a musician, Ayala has also worked
as an actor and producer. Throughout his career,
he has been generally reticent to discuss his
personal life, but has publicly expressed the
importance of his wife and children to him.

"An
absolute masterpiece by a modern Latin tenor"
are the best words to describe Huey's last creation
"Huey Dunbar IV", the powerful numbers
in this album create a sense
of ecstacy and reafirm the sensuality of the Latin
genre. Theere's definitely a "club"
feel here, a sound that extends beyond straight
ahead Salsa and infuses it with modern sensibility.
Huey assembled a top-notch crew including pianist
Efrain "Junito" Dávila, bassist
Sal Cuevas, trombonists Alberto Barros and Hernan
"Teddy" Mulet, trumpeter Richie Viruet
and percussionists Ricardo Bravo and Roberto Vilera.
Guianko Gomez, Lilian Garcia and Dunbar fill out
the coro section. Huey Dunbar IV is a must
have for the Latin Lover at heart!
About
Huey
Hailed by
many critics as the future of Salsa music and
other Latin genres, Huey Dunbar helped
to revitalize the genre and introduce it to a
new generation during his stint as the lead singer
of Dark Latin Groove (DLG). The group's three
albums gained DLG a large following not only among
salsa music fans but listeners across the musical
spectrum as well. After winning two Billboard
Latin Music Awards, DLG amicably split up in 2000
and Dunbar began a promising solo career. His
first album, Yo Si Me Enamore, was released in
2001 and earned a gold record for selling over
a half-million copies. With an English-language
album in the works in 2003, Dunbar looked forward
to branching out into new musical styles. As he
told an interviewer with the Salsa Wild website,
"I always planned on going in different directions.
I always think it's necessary for me to not stay
on doing the same thing over because I don't want
to get pigeonholed. I don't want anyone to think
that Huey's only good for one kind of music."
Following
a two-year break from the recording studio, Puerto
Rican pop singer Chayanne is back with a new album
titled “No hay imposibles” (There
are no impossibles) that's faithful to the artist's
romantic side.
The first cut is “Me enamoré de ti,”
already a popular radio track in several US markets
and the theme of Corazón Salvaje, a Mexican
soap opera that will be distributed to more than
60 countries worldwide.
The follow-up to the Puerto Rican heartthrob's
2007 “Mi tiempo,” the set features
12 unreleased songs, including “Si no estás,”
“El hombre que fui” and “Por
si mañana,” among others.
The artist's new album follows the release of
his first live DVD/CD ever last year, “Chayanne-Vivo.”
Recorded between Miami , Puerto Rico, Los Angeles
, Bogotá-Colombia, and Buenos Aires , No
hay imposibles features renowned producers Julio
Reyes, Sebastián Krys, Pablo Durán,
René Toledo and Javier Díaz, who
headed the production.
About
Chayanne
Elmer
Figueroa Arce was born in Rio Piedras, a suburb
of San Juan, to Quintino Figueroa, a sales manager,
and Irma Luz Arce, a teacher. Elmer Figueroa Arce
was a member of popular Puerto Rican pop band
Los Chicos ('The Kids') from the age of 10 until
he was 16. When the group split he began a solo
career, adopting the name Chayanne in 1987. The
following year he made a breakthrough when, at
the age of 20, his self-titled third album spawned
a handful of hit singles, including Latin Tracks
Chart-topper "Fuiste un Trozo de Hielo en
la Escarcha". Another self-titled album,
released the following year, earned Chayanne his
first Grammy nomination for the single "Fiesta
en América". Chayanne's 1990 album
Tiempo de Vals was his best yet, and contained
another string of Latin pop hits.
Chayanne
received another Grammy nomination for his eighth
solo album, Atado a Tu Amor, in 1998. In 2007
he released Mi Tiempo to more strong sales. It
is believed that Chayanne has sold over 10 million
records worldwide.

It
is quite amazing the old-time conjunto feeling
Charlie Zaa achieved here. This is something of
a concept album, a study in the Cuban bolero-chá
feel. And it's really good. This has an abundance
of the maraca-bongó component that is often
lost in today's Salsa. Well done indeed and Zaa's
singing feels just right. With trumpeters Carlos
Acosta and Wilfer Fajardo, percussionists German
Villareal and Javier Ortega, Mauricio Daltaire
on maracas, guitarist Franco Carlos and bassist
Juan Carlos Garcia.

Dos
Mundos is Alejandro Fernandez' tour-de-force performance
as he tackles both Mexican ranchera and pop and
releases an album of each successfully and simultaneously.
Unlike other artists who do the two-for-one trick,
each CD contains a totally different track list
and each is stylistically true to its genre. You'll
probably prefer the album that reflects your own
musical tastes, but you can get both in the dual-disc
Dos Mundos package.
Alejandro
Fernandez has pulled off quite a feat. He has
simultaneously released two studio albums, in
two different genres/styles, with two different
producers and a completely different track list
for each. And, even more unlikely, both albums
are terrific.
Dos Mundos
means ‘two worlds’ and the worlds
are that of Latin pop (Dos Mundos Evolucion) and
ranchera (Dos Mundos Tradicion). The packaging
options offer either Evolucion or Tradicion or
simply Dos Mundos, a two CD bundle that includes
both.
Fernandez
has a wonderful voice which has only gotten stronger
and more resonant over the years. But that voice,
while very effective for pop music, is quite different
than the lusty, powerful, made-for-dramatic-ranchera
voice of father Vicente Fernandez. It must be
a temptation to imitate Dad’s style, especially
when singing in that manner originally made the
family fortune.
Alejandro
Fernandez, thankfully, resists the temptation
on Dos Mundos Tradicion. Instead, while he plays
around stylistically, varying from a rough country
style (“Una Nalgadas,” “La Seven”)
to a smoother style on flamenco-accented “Pecadora”
and the bolero “Me Dueles,” he retains
a vocal integrity that is all his own, never going
for all-out bravura, but still remaining effective.
The album’s 11 tracks consist of boleros,
traditional ranchera and a few numbers that could
be called Mexican country. It’s a good mix,
expertly executed.
Dos Mundos
Evolucion is the pop album and this is where Fernandez
really shines. Ballads are his forte and this
album is primarily about ballads. It also proves
that all ballads don’t sound alike. Sure,
there are some standard cry-in-your-soup tunes
like “Cuando Digo Tu Nombre” but then
“Tu Amor Perdi” surprises the listener
with traditional Mexican falsetto while “Dibujando
Un Corazon” incorporates drums and accordions
in a cumbia-style accompaniment. “Imagina”
is that big, driving, no-time-for-a-breath ballad
while the first hit single, “Se Me Va La
Voz” is more a rock ballad with heartfelt
lyrics.
Vibrant
with emotion without going over-the-top, Fernandez
pop style is smooth, classic and satisfying. Depending
on which genre of music you prefer, you’ll
probably like one album better than the other.
I prefer whichever album I heard last.
